2007-08 New year

Following a two-year relationship with the event management wing of the venue, SXS were approached to manage complete technical production for the New Year Celebrations at the New Connaught Rooms, West End, London.

The SXS team's experience at producing large dance events, such as the Millennium Stadium Cardiff Event, was also critical in the venues choice.

 

 

The Brief

The event was to be held over many rooms in this labyrinth of a venue. SXS were instructed to do technical production in the three largest rooms.

The event was to have high-quality sound systems throughout and lighting rigs to the standard of the best London clubs, and be distinctly non-disco.

 

 

The Grand Hall

The grand hall was the main room and, having no rigging points, needed to be approached creatively to get the lighting positions right. The team decided to build a goal-post rig over the stage, as well as over-audience box truss at the rear of the hall. This allowed lighting to be in several different positions around the room, creating a quality club feel.

Lighting in this space was a large rig consisting of 16 moving heads including Robe 250XT, Mac2000s, Mac600s and Mac500s.

Sound consisted of 20k of Thunder Ridge XP on Camco, Powersoft and C-Audio. In addition six dual-concentric wedges were used for centre and in fill.

 

 

The Event

The event was a massive success, with full ticket sales. Many comments were made on the sound and we look forward to next year's event.
